In LA neighborhood the neighbouring Venice, Santa Monica is in my opinion the best place to stay in LA map. Inevitably, it comes at a price. The neighborhood of Santa Monica is really nice, quieter and more chic than Venice Beach. If your budget allows it, I really recommend you to sleep in this area of LA to visit the city.
Neighborhoods that are good for getting in and out LA neighborhood are: West Hollywood and the entire coast of LA starting with Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Marina Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. From a price point of view, I would advise to go on: Torrance, Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach (i.e. rather the places south of the airport). The north side of the airport map, i.e. towards Marina del rey, the neighborhood of Venice Beach and Santa Monica, is really expensive at night. Although in LA Manhattan Beach is not cheap, I think it's still more affordable than Santa Monica or Venice.
LA is a city, but it is also a county. So there is often confusion and apriorities when we talk about LA. The LA beach is very nice and ideal if you are new to surfing. Dont miss the canals of the neighborhood of Venice which are a few blocks from the beach, the mythical "Muscle Beach", the skate park and Abbot Kinney, a very nice street with lots of trendy shops, restaurants and bars.
